More Than Medals: A Day of Sport, Song, and School Spirit

More Than Medals: A Day of Sport, Song, and School Spirit

The morning sun spills golden light across the fields of St. Grace Lasford School as students gather for the annual Sports and Activities during the first term of 2026. Laughter and excitement fill the air. It is not just about winning, but about coming together as a team.

From the running track to the singing games, from the school slides and ladders to every corner buzzing with energy. Some pupils are racing in the 100-meter dash, their sneakers pounding the ground like drums. Others play football, passing the ball with quick, clever moves. Near the shade of the big car park and the admiration balcony, a group of students enjoys chess and Scrabble, proving that games aren’t only about speed but also about strategy and patience.

Between events, there are fun activities, such as skipping, sack races, tug-of-war, and even a dance competition. Teachers cheer and compete alongside students, reminding everyone that the real victory lies in participation, friendship, and learning new skills.

By the end of the day, tired but happy faces carry medals, certificates, and memories that will last far longer than the applause. They board the school van and bus, and then head back home. Sports and games are bringing the school together stronger, happier, and more united than ever.

At St Grace Lasford Schools, we participate in sports and games to

Improve concentration: boosts blood flow to the brain, sharpening focus.

Better memory & learning: Movement stimulates brain function, aiding retention of lessons.

Problem-solving skills: Strategy games (scrabble, chess, football tactics) enhance analytical thinking.

Creativity: Dance, drama, and imaginative play encourage innovation and expression.
